When the Timpson Group set out to create a cutting-edge production facility for their world-famous Jeeves dry cleaning brand, Barlows UK Ltd was proud to take on the challenge—transforming a former car workshop into a high-tech, energy-efficient hub for garment care
Barlows UK Ltd: Powering the New Home of Jeeves Dry Cleaning
When the Timpson Group acquired the world-renowned Jeeves dry cleaning brand in 2019, they set out to create a state-of-the-art production facility that would uphold its reputation for excellence. Excitingly, we were tasked with helping transform a former car workshop in Barnet into a cutting-edge dry cleaning and garment care hub—Jacob’s.
The project was an exciting challenge for our team. Given notice to vacate their Tottenham hub, Jeeves needed a new space tailored to their unique requirements. Barlows first visited the site in March 2024, where we designed a plan to convert the twin-unit workshop into a purpose-built production site.
From Car Workshop to Cutting-Edge Facility
The transformation began with a complete strip-out, removing walls and all outdated wiring. Our engineers set up temporary power supplies to ensure a smooth workflow before undertaking the crucial first and second fix installations. Working alongside LTD15 and other contractors, we ensured every electrical and mechanical element was seamlessly integrated into the project.
Jacob’s is a multi-million-pound investment boasting an impressive lineup of technology. At the heart of the facility is an ultra-sophisticated automated garment rail system from Metalprogetti, guiding each item through its cleaning and repair journey. A bespoke CleanCloud tracking system was also installed, ensuring every single garment’s location and progress can be monitored in real time maximizing both efficiency and precision.
Expert Machinery & Sustainable Solutions
Beyond high-tech machinery, sustainability was a core focus of the project, with Barlows’ EV department playing a pivotal role. Our team installed 142 solar panels on the roof, helping to power the facility with clean energy. Additionally, Jeeves is accelerating its transition to an all-electric vehicle fleet, a move supported by Barlows' expertise in EV infrastructure. By integrating these cutting-edge energy solutions, we’ve helped create a facility that’s as environmentally responsible as it is technologically advanced.
A Real Team Effort
The scale of this project demanded dedication, expertise, and teamwork. A team of Barlows engineers worked on-site for four months, collaborating closely with various sections of the business and external contractors.
This project exemplifies Barlows’ commitment to delivering high-quality, tailored solutions for our clients. From concept to completion, every individual involved has taken immense pride in their work, ensuring Jacob’s stands as a shining example of innovation in garment care.
Jeeves has long been the trusted name for British royalty, celebrities, and the well-heeled, and now, thanks to this incredible transformation, its new home is fit for such a prestigious clientele.
