Royal Recognition for Barlows Continuous Development of Young People

22.08.22

We are pleased and honoured to be one of the 48 UK organisations and business that have been recognised in the 2022 Princess Royal Training Awards, joining the likes of Royal Navy, JCB and Greene King.

Now in its seventh year, The Princess Royal Training Awards continue to recognise organisation truly demonstrating exceptional commitment to learning and development. With skills shortages across the UK increasing and job vacancies doubling, creating engaging learning programmes to grow and retain new and existing talent has never been more crucial.

We pride ourselves on being able to support continuous development for our young people and enabling them to excel in their own abilities.

The majority of our employees have come through our apprenticeship program with Clifford College and many have now continued their professional journey in the electrical contracting industry.

Ryan Salisbury – Project Manager

Ryan joined Barlows 15 years ago as an apprentice and went on to qualify fully as an electrician. Since then, because of his hard work, continued commitment and development earned the promotion to Project Manager. He now oversees electrical installations on major commercial sites for our Head Office.

I have been able to use to my skills as an electrician to build my knowledge in the electrical industry and been fortunate that Barlows have been able to support me in my journey to Electrical Project Manager.

– Ryan Salisbury, Project Manager

Shannon Gibson – Electrical Black hat

Shannon completed her apprenticeship here at Barlows and attended our very own Clifford College. Having completed her electrical apprenticeship and going on to become a fully qualified electrician, she has continued to impress and demonstrate her skills. Shannon now runs her own electrical refurbishment projects for many commercial clients.

I have been running my own electrical refurbishment projects for several years and have been able to further my skills on each one. I am continually supported by my manager whilst being allowed the freedom to manage the day to day works on site.

– Shannon Gibson, Electrical Black hat

Mac Johnston – Electrical Black hat

As an apprentice at Barlows, Mac was excellent, always showing a desire to learn and continually pushed himself to improve both on the job and in college. Since being awarded Barlows UK Ltd apprentice of the year in 2021, he has gone on to qualify and become an electrical black hat.

I was awarded the Barlows UK Ltd apprentice of the year in 2021 and I am grateful for the opportunities Barlows have given me. My managers have seen my potential and relied on me to run large scale industrial installations.

– Mac Johnston, Electrical Black hat
