Barlows’ maintenance department were appointed as the main contractor in the first floor structural and roofing repairs of this 16th century listed building. The team organised all trades, sub-contractors ensuring all works carried out were fully CDM compliant.
The project involved stripping and replacing many of the large oak roof rafters, ceiling and floor joists and floor boarding. Major traditional splicing repairs of roof trusses that had been damaged by pests and rot were also deemed necessary. The chimney stack, internal truss brick infills and wall plate supporting walls were rebuilt in the original style using reclaimed bricks and lime mortar and the exterior was finished in a lime render.
Works were carried out sympathetically to the building’s age and history and under the specification and scrutiny of the local conservation officer and consultant. All existing materials were sized, numbered and logged prior to their removal and re-used where possible.
The project was completed on time with the thanks from the brewery for a difficult job successfully completed.
