The winner of High Wycombe's Apprentice of the Year 2023 is Tam Mango!
Tam has shown great promise as an electrician since joining Barlows, and his impressive skills and work ethic have been noted by both his colleagues and the wider community. Whether he is working on a complex installation or helping out colleagues, Tam always puts his best foot forward, demonstrating a level of professionalism and expertise that is beyond his years.
We will be taking a closer look at Tam's journey as an electrical apprentice, and exploring the skills and experiences that have helped him to become one of High Wycombe's most promising young electricians. From the challenges he has faced to the projects he has been involved in, we will be examining the various aspects of life as an apprentice, and how he has used his experiences to develop his skills and further his career.

"As I was finishing my GCSE’s, I was at a crossroads between continuing with Sixth Form or pursuing an apprenticeship. I was unsure of what to do until a close friend who was already a third-year apprentice at Barlows recommended that I consider applying for an apprenticeship with them. Although I had no prior electrical experience, I was aware of the numerous benefits of apprenticeships, which ultimately led me to choose Barlows as the place to start my career as an electrician."
Overcoming Challenges
"The biggest challenge I faced during my apprenticeship was the transition from school to work. However, I found it easy to adapt as I was excited to begin my apprenticeship at Barlows. My favourite part of the job is completing an installation/job, and since joining Barlows, I never expected the range and variety of work available. I have also learned to have an open mind, which has helped me to become a better version of myself both at work and outside of work."
Learning and Development
"Barlows has been incredibly supportive of my development as an electrician, both professionally and personally. The engineers and staff in the office are highly motivated, and they always go out of their way to teach and guide us through the apprenticeship. I aspire to improve my skills with design and decision making, and I am keen to pursue a career in electrical design. Life as an apprentice has been highly worthwhile, and I would encourage anyone considering a career as an electrical apprentice to keep an open mind and choose Barlows for the opportunity to learn and grow."
